Dr. Montenegro is a Yale-trained, board-certified adult psychiatrist and a University of Washington (UW)- trained, board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. He is an educator and researcher at the UW School of Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Previously, Dr. Montenegro directed mental health services at Echo Glen Children's Center.
He treats children, adolescents, and adults, offering medication management and therapy for various psychiatric conditions. He is licensed to provide services in WA, CA, and AK.
He is a clinical assistant professor at UW. His current focus is on bias reduction strategies, doctor-patient communication, and research on health inequities.
He balances his part-time private practice, ongoing research, and clinical work at UW/SCH with caring for incarcerated and unaccompanied youth in Washington State.
Outside work, Dr. Montenegro enjoys the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and his Chief Happiness Officer, Oso.

My Approach
My practice provides individualized psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults. My in-depth evaluations are informed by the person’s unique biological, psychological, and social background and lived experiences. I provide psychotherapy and medication management. I have a particular interest and expertise in cross-cultural psychiatry, caring for people of diverse backgrounds, and providing mental health services to physicians and other individuals with public and/or high-stakes careers. I am licensed in WA, CA, and AK.
